Recently, I received an email from a CAS member advising he could not post a comment regarding a subject on the website. After trying myself to figure out why, unsuccessfully I might add, I decided to ask the lady who developed the web site. She informed me that after 60 days from the date the article is originally posted, comments are at that point closed out. The reason why is to prevent spam, or so I was told. However, the time frame is variable and I changed it to 90 days. I would think three months is sufficient time to post a comment to an existing article. If that does not work, I can change it again.
Another change is how comments are posted. Up until now, the procedure has been that if a CAS member wanted to post a comment, I would receive an email asking for approval. Once approval was granted, the comment was posted. This is to ensure comments with vulgarity, rudeness, or wildly inappropriate are not posted. My personal problem with that is because I pretty much alone approve comments, they are not posted until I do. And that might take days or even a week or more – depending on how quickly I respond. I feel sure the CAS members are not going to write comments with profanity or insult someone or something. I feel sure we are all above that. So I have removed that restriction. Besides, if a comment is posted that is inappropriate, I can simply delete it. If no restriction becomes a problem, I’ll reinstate the approval process. I doubt that will happen, though.
As I see it, the CAS web site is the portal for communication between the CAS members across both Carolinas. It does not make sense to me to restrict that service. I would also hope the CAS members check in on the website from time to time. I realize there is not daily activity going on but keeping things somewhat current is very helpful. And if anyone has an idea or request for an article to be posted, simply let me know in the “Contact” section of the web site. I’ll be happy to look into any requests.
Thanks Everyone, Happy Listening!
